In many western universities and colleges they give not only knowledge and skills in the specialisation, but teach how to look for work effectively.
In Austria I studied at “marketing and management” at university. I got work at a Salzburg advertising consultancy agency belonging to one of the university professors when I was doing one of his homeworks.
The fact is that in Austrian universities (and not only universities but many other educational establishments offering professional education), serious attention is paid to the question of job hunting. We had, for instance, 40 hours devoted to it.
The professor assessed
For instance, they explained to us how to put together a CV correctly, how to behave in an interview, and gave a lot more different useful details to increase the chance of being noticed by an employer and taken on.
After completing the session devoted to how to put together correctly a CV, the professor gave us a task to do by the next lecture: to prepare our own CV’s. Then in the lecture he looked at our homework and made comments. It was something along the lines of: “In this CV this is correct, and in this one this is good” “In this one, this is insufficient,” and “I am ready to give a job to this student . Come and see me after the lecture.” I was that student.
To start with I was an ordinary employee in the crisis management department, but quite soon I moved on to the department for developing advertising concepts. After about a year I was already manager of that department.
I blend mentalities
The experience I obtained in work and in my studies in Austria really help me in my present work.
Using in work the best of two mentalities (Russian and western European), I manage to find non standard, creative solutions. Creative work is for me one of the most important components of a job.
